Hannah Kendrick has
spent the last twelve years fighting for her sanity. And the doctor who
has stood by her side has run out of options.
A small computer tracking spell will find Hannah—but can Witch Central save her? From Goodreads
There can be no doubt that this is one of my favourite authors and series and the moment. This is the seventh and last book in The Modern Witch series all of which have been about finding new witches. As I have enjoyed this series a lot I am pleased that even though this particular series about finding new witches is now finished Debora Geary is writing a new series with all the characters from this series.
I am looking forward to September when the first book is supposed to be published.

Zoe's Tale by John Scalzi
How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history?
I ask because it's what I have to do. I'm Zoe Boutin Perry: A colonist stranded on a deadly pioneer world. Holy icon to a race of aliens. A player (and a pawn) in a interstellar chess match to save humanity, or to see it fall. Witness to history. Friend. Daughter. Human. Seventeen years old.
Everyone on Earth knows the tale I am part of. But you
don't know my tale: How I did what I did — how I did what I had to do —
not just to stay alive but to keep you alive, too. All of you. I'm going
to tell it to you now, the only way I know how: not straight but true,
the whole thing, to try make you feel what I felt: the joy and terror
and uncertainty, panic and wonder, despair and hope. Everything that
happened, bringing us to Earth, and Earth out of its captivity. All
through my eyes.
It's a story you know. But you don't know it all. From Goodreads.
I was a bit wary of this book, it is the story of The Last Colony told from Zoe's point of view. It wasn't as bad as I had feared. There were some new stories in it which meant it was different enough from The Last Colony. I especially liked Zoe's relationship with the Obin, her alien protectors.

The Sea of Monsters Rick Riordan
Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders that protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia. Only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name: The Bermuda Triangle.
Together with his friends, Percy must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family, one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke. From Goodreads.
I will continue this series as I find the adventure mixed with the Greek Gods interesting and in this one I like Percy's new brother.

The Last Colony John Scalzi

That is, until his and Jane's past reaches out to bring them back into the game — as leaders of a new human colony, to be peopled by settlers from all the major human worlds, for a deep political purpose that will put Perry and Sagan back in the thick of interstellar politics, betrayal, and war. Finishing the Series Reading Challenge 2013 Finished
Finishing the Series Reading Challenge 2013 hosted by Socrates Book Reviews.
Here are the rules guidelines.
1) All books that are part of a continuing series qualify (i.e. Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, James Patterson's Alex Cross, etc. etc.)
2) It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 10 books in a series to complete it, it qualifies (i.e. if you only need to read one more Sookie Stackhouse book to complete the goal, that's fine) The goal is to complete a series from wherever you are up to until the last published book.
3) The qualification period is January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. Books must be read during this time frame to count.
4) Take the button above and post about it. Use the Mr. Linky below to sign up and make sure you link it directly to your post about this challenge. (Note: I'm not going to be using the Finishing the Series Blog I created last year. I'm going to keep everything here.)
5) If you don't have a blog, that's fine. Just leave a comment to sign up and tell us what you are reading.
IF YOU WANT TO LINK UP YOUR REVIEWS OR, FOR THOSE WITHOUT A BLOG, LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW.
6) Any format of book counts - audio, ebook, etc.
7) You should choose the series you want to finish before the challenge begins, but it isn't necessary. It's fine to change series during the year - as long as you complete whichever series it is.
8) Choose a level....
Level 1 - Complete 1 series.
Level 2 - Complete 2 series.
Level 3 - Complete 3 or more series.
My goal this year was Level 3 - Complete 3 or more series.
I have completed this challenge.

Enchanters' End Game by David Eddings
But the Prophecy was unfulfilled. In the east, the evil God Torak was about to awaken and seek dominion. Somehow, Garion had to face the God, to kill or be killed. On the outcome of that dread duel rested the destiny of the world. Now, accompanied by his grandfather, the ancient sorcerer Belgarath, Garion headed toward the City of Endless Night, where Torak awaited him.
To the south, his fiancée, the princess Ce'Nedra, led the armies of the West in a desperate effort to divert the forces of Torak's followers from the man she loved.
The Prophecy drove Garion on. But it gave no answer to the question that haunted him: How does a man kill an immortal God?
Here is the brilliant conclusion to the epic of The Belgariad, which began in Pawn of Prophecy--a novel of fate, strange lands, and a Prophecy that must be fulfilled--the resolution of the war of men, Kings, and Gods that had spanned seven thousand years! From Goodreads.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this Belgariad series. If you like fantasy, a few love stories and some humorous bantering among friends, this series of books has it all. Definitely worth a read. Having read this series I might check the 2 sequels about Belgarath and Polgara.

Castle of Wizardry by David Eddings
Now, at last, the Orb was regained and the quest was nearing its end. Of course, the questors still had to escape from this crumbling enemy fortress and flee across a desert filled with Murgo soldiers searching for them, while Grolim Hierarchs strove to destroy them with dark magic. Then, somehow, they must manage to be in Riva with the Orb by Erastide. After that, however, Garion was sure that his part in these great events would be finished.
But the Prophecy still held future surprises for Garion--and for the little princess Ce'Nedra.
This continues the magnificent epic of The Belgariad, begun in Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, and Magician's Gambit--a fantasy set against a background of the war of men, Kings, and Gods that had spanned seven thousand years--a novel of fate, strange lands, and a prophecy that must be fulfilled! From Goodreads.
It is getting close to the end of the quest. I like the way the kings and the group of people we follow try to wind each other up all the time. They all also spy on each other and everybody knows it.

Magician's Gambit by David Eddings
Ce'Nedra, Imperial
Princess of Tolnedra, had joined a dangerous mission to recover the
stolen Orb that supposedly protected the West from the evil God Torak.
And somehow, she found herself feeling quite tender for Garion, the
innocent farm boy, who would be forced into the strange tower in the
center of all evil to retrieve the Orb by himself. From Goodreads.

Queen Of Sorcery by David Eddings
The master Sorcerer
Belgarath and his daughter Polgara the arch-Sorceress were on the trail
of the Orb, seeking to regain its saving power before the final disaster
prophesized by the legends. And with them went Garion, a simple farm
boy only months before, but now the focus of the struggle. He had never
believed in sorcery and wanted no part of it. Yet with every league they
traveled, the power grew in him, forcing him to acts of wizardry he
could not accept. From Goodreads

Virtual Evil by Jana Oliver
Harter Defoe, the
greatest of all Time Rovers, has gone rogue, his knowledge of the future
a death sentence. It falls to Jacynda Lassiter to save him...or betray
him. A sequel to the first book in the Time Rovers series, Sojourn. In

'tourist' in 1888 Whitechapel, Jack the Ripper's hunting ground. If she
fails, history will be the first victim. She will be the second. From Goodreads.

Endlessly by Kiersten White
Evie's paranormal past
keeps coming back to haunt her. A new director at the International
Paranormal Containment Agency wants to drag her back to headquarters.
The Dark Faerie Queen is torturing humans in her poisonous realm. And
supernatural creatures keep insisting that Evie is the only one who can
save them from a mysterious, perilous fate.
The clock is ticking on the entire paranormal world. And its fate rests solely in Evie's hands. From Goodreads.
I read the first 2 books in this trilogy last April, actually the second book Supernaturally I read during Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2012 so it is quite nice to read the last book this year.
I liked the 2 first books better but this was a good ending to the story. I will most likely read more books by Kiersten White.

Swordfights & Lullabies by Debora Geary
A bachelor curmudgeon, a
Celtic witch, and an adorable wee girl with lavender eyes. Join them in
the last days of the Swordfights & Lullabies tour - and see what
love has wrought.
This is a short read, about the length of two chapters in the Modern Witch series books. Not a short story, really - more like a snapshot. The chance to share a few special moments with some of your favorite witches.
It should be read after A Celtic Witch. Enjoy! From Goodreads.
A very cute romantic short story that is just like a couple of extra chapter for A Celtic Witch which I read earlier this month.

A Celtic Witch by Debora Geary

Except that's not what the rocks have in mind. Or a certain fetching spell. Or the truth working its way free in her own heart.
Can the music, and perhaps a certain grumpy curmudgeon and his baby girl, help Cass find her life's new song?
A Celtic Witch is book six of the top-rated A Modern Witch series. Light contemporary fantasy with a good dose of humor, a little romance, and characters you won't want to leave. From Goodreads.
I am thoroughly enjoying this Modern Witch series by Debora Geary. It is not all happy and there are some more serious subjects brought up. But all the books have happy endings and my husband always knows when I am reading these books as I quite often just giggling away. Another short story coming out this month and then the last book coming out in June.
If you like witches and a fun light read this is a very good series.
I have just bought another 2 short stories by Debora Geary, nothing to do with A Modern Witch but I hope for a light, fun read for Dewey's Read-a-Thon next weekend.

Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder
When word that Yelena is
a Soulfinder—able to capture and release souls—spreads like wildfire,
people grow uneasy. Already Yelena's unusual abilities and past have set
her apart. As the Council debates Yelena's fate, she receives a
disturbing message: a plot is rising against her homeland, led by a
murderous sorcerer she has defeated before....
Honor sets Yelena on a path that will test the limits of her skills, and the hope of reuniting with her beloved spurs her onward. Her journey is fraught with allies, enemies, lovers and would-be assassins, each of questionable loyalty. Yelena will have but one chance to prove herself—and save the land she holds dear. From Goodreads
Not as great as the first two books in the series but still an enjoyable read. I wish I had read this series before the Glass series as in this book we are introduced to some of the characters from the Glass series.
One of the enemies in this book is not an expected one and I like those kind of surprises. Yelena also learns some tough lessons in this book, among others that not everybody should be saved.
As far as I can gather there are going to be more books in this series and I am looking forward to reading them when they get published - I think the next is set for 2014 but I will keep an eye out for it.

Witches in Flight by Debora Geary
Ghosts from Lizard's past--and the man who wants to be her future.
The empty places in Elsie's soul--and the temptations of raspberry-laced courage.
Walk once more with Jennie's students as they come to the end of their WitchLight journeys. From Goodreads.
I have chosen to do only one post for these 3 books as I have read them back to back from Friday evening to Sunday morning (4am).
I thoroughly enjoy Debora Geary's witch books.
This is not part of the Modern Witch series but they take place in Witch Central just like them and the characters from there are all part of this book plus a few more non witches from the community. There are of course a lot of sad moments in these books but I really like that they actually makes me giggle a lot.
Now I just have to wait for the next book in the Modern Witch series to be published.
Update: I have had to split this post in three after all as I can't use the same link for different books in some of my reading challenges.

Witches under Way by Debora Geary
Lizard and Elsie are under way, but the WitchLight journey isn't an easy one.
There are bumps and obstacles inside their own hearts.
There are meddling witches, helpful knitters, and a fearsome duo with water pistols.
And there is the greatest challenge of all... the one they will pick for each other. From Goodreads

The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa

In less than twenty-four hours I'll be seventeen.
Although technically, I won't actually be turning seventeen. I've been in the Nevernever too long. When you're in Faery, you don't age. So while a year has passed in the real world, age wise I'm probably only a few days older than when I went in.
In real life, I've changed so much I don't even recognise myself.
I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.
This time, there will be no turning back. From Goodreads.
The fight against the Iron Fey has brought Winter and Summer together because they can't beat them alone. They also send for Meghan and Ash even though they have been banished, they are Nevernever's only hope. Looking forward to read The Iron Knight.

The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa
Half Summer faery
princess, half human, Meghan has never fitted in anywhere. Deserted by
the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter
faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that
the real danger comes from the Iron fey – ironbound faeries that only
she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse,
Meghan’s own fey powers have been cut off. She’s stuck in Faery with
only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting the
prince who betrayed her, deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of
iron, Meghan can’t help but hear the whispers of longing in her
all-too-human heart. From Goodreads.
The second book in the Iron Fey series. I am enjoying this series at the moment and I am about to start the third book right away. I keep wanting Winter Fey to be evil and summer Fey to be good in all the books I have read about them. But the thing is that no Fey are good, not for humans anyway.
This book is about the eternal fight between summer and winter, with the new iron Fey thrown into the equation. I am looking forward to see where all this is heading.

Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder
Confronting The Past -
Controlling The Future. With an execution order on her head, Yelena has
no choice but to escape to Sitia, the land of her birth. With only a
year to master her magic – or face death – Yelena must begin her
apprenticeship and travels to the Four Towers of the Magician’s Keep.
But nothing in Sitia is familiar. Not the family to whom she is a
stranger. Not the unsettling new facets of her magic. Not the brother
who resents her return. As she struggles to understand where she belongs
and how to control her rare powers, a rogue magician emerges – and
Yelena catches his eye. Suddenly she is embroiled in battle against
good and evil. And once again it will be her magical abilities that will
either save her life…or be her downfall. From Goodreads
I enjoyed this book. I like the description of Yelena's struggles to learn to work with others, but also the way she forged a friendship with the street children. I have already bought the third book and will most likely read it before long.
