Wacky Reading Challenges: Word Search 2016-1 (January-March)

Word Search hosted by Wacky Reading Challenges on Goodreads.

I have decided not to take part in so many word searches this year but I will continue this one. As I don't want to make a new post every month I have decided to do a post for every 3 months.

January 2016 Word Search
January 1, 2016 - January 31, 2016

Since we didn't have a Group Read our words this month are inspired by New Year's and all the celebrations surrounding it. Our word searches based on our Group Reads will be back next month.

In honor of the New Year let's start fresh. If you have carry over words from the previous months wipe the slate clean!

Below is the list of words to find. They can only be found within the text of the book - no covers, titles or authors, please. For each word you find, provide the book title, page or location, and the sentence containing the word. You can use one book to find all the words, or as many as you like.

Optional Words: You can choose to look for them or leave them off your list...it's up to you.

***And if you don't find all the words this month, you are welcome to carry them over to next month's word search challenge.***

2016 I Love Libraries Reading Challenge - Sign Up

I Love Library Books Reading Challenge 2016 hosted by Bea's Book Nook.

Now on Goodreads instead.

I have taken part in this challenge the last two years while it has been hosted by Gina @ Book Dragon's Lair She has decided not to host it any more but luckily Bea's Book Nook has taken over.
Where I live we have a brilliant library and it has been named the best library in Denmark in 2015. They have a lot of activities going on among the more weird ones was the the cycle race that went through the library! Also at one point they had a couple of exercise bikes connected to a charger. People could then pay their fines by cycling! Varde Bibliotek.

My main use for the library is just to pick up the books I have ordered from home. Denmark is a small country and all libraries are connected so that I can look for a book and even though my local library hasn't got the book, if it is in the Danish library system, I can order it and it will come to my local library where I can pick it up.

The last two years I have read 50 books from the library but this year I might have a period where I can't use the library so I will join at Young adult - 24 books.

I Love Libraries was formerly hosted by Book Dragon's Lair. She's cutting back her challenge hosting for 2016 and passed the baton to me. This challenge is one of several library challenges I've done since started my blog so I'm delighted to be hosting.
It's no secret that I love my library and it's been a tremendous resource for me over the years, and not just for books. For this challenge, use your library to check out reading material - books, magazines, any sort of reading material that you are allowed to check out, physical or digital. The challenge runs January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

The details:
  1. Put a sign up post on your blog and link it below.
  2. If you don't have a blog, make a dedicated goodreads shelf (or LibraryThing), make sure it's public, and link it below.
  3. Any reading material that can be checked out of your library counts - print books, audio books, digital books, magazines, etc.
  4. As part of your sign up post, briefly write why you like using your library - free books, internet access, a quiet place to work, whatever draws you to the library. If you don't have a blog platform, post it in the comments below.
  5. Write a review - 2 sentences or an essay, whatever works for you, but there is a minimum of 2 sentences. Not sure what to write? How about something like, "The characters were a delight but the story was slow and confusing. It was disappointing."
  6. There will be a post each month where you can link your reviews. Each linky will run for the calendar year.
  7. Pick a level from the list below. You can move up as needed but you can't move down.
  8. Books may overlap with other reading challenges.
  9. ETA Dec. 17: There's a goodreads group for anyone interested in discussing libraries or books or for tracking your challenge. The group was an outgrowth of yet another library reading challenge that has since ended but the group is still active. The challenge host, The Geeky Blogger, added me as a mod to the goodreads group, come check us out!

  • early reader - 9
  • chapter book - 12

Color Coded Reading Challenge 2016 - Sign Up

Color Coded Reading Challenge 2016 hosted by My Reader's Block.

I took part in this challenge in 2014 and after a break I am ready to take part again. It is also slightly different this year as the colour is either the cover or in the title.

The Color Coded Challenge seems to be as popular as ever, so we're going to give it another go. Once again the categories will be more open--the color may either be named in the title or it may appear as the dominant color for the cover of the book. For "implies color" the image implying color should dominate the cover--for instance a large rainbow, a field of flowers, or the image of a painter.  Get ready for a rainbow of reading in 2016.

I must tell you that I won't be participating myself this year. I'm trying to put myself on a challenge "diet" and cutting down on challenges that I don't have books on hand to use for completion. I prefer to do the "color in the title" option and I seem to have run out of "yellows" and "browns." (I've looked over my TBR list--and I'm going to be able to do the colors after all!) My financial situation has also made it necessary to cut down on the prizes I offer for challenges I host. There will not be a prize offered for this particular challenge this year.

Here are the rules:

*Read nine books in the following categories.
1. A book with "Blue" or any shade of Blue (Turquoise, Aquamarine, Navy, etc) in the title/on the cover.

2. A book with "Red" or any shade of Red (Scarlet, Crimson, Burgandy, etc) in the title/on the cover.
3. A book with "Yellow" or any shade of Yellow (Gold, Lemon, Maize, etc.) in the title/on the cover.

4. A book with "Green" or any shade of Green (Emerald, Lime, Jade, etc) in the title/on the cover.
5. A book with "Brown" or any shade of Brown (Tan, Chocolate, Beige, etc) in the title/on the cover.

6. A book with "Black" or any shade of Black (Jet, Ebony, Charcoal, etc) in the title/on the cover.
7. A book with "White" or any shade of White (Ivory, Eggshell, Cream, etc) in the title/on the cover.

8. A book with any other color in the title/on the cover (Purple, Orange, Silver, Pink, Magneta, etc.).
9. A book with a word that implies color (Rainbow, Polka-dot, Plaid, Paisley, Stripe, etc.).

* Any book read from January 1 through December 31, 2016 will count.
*Crossovers with other challenges are fine.
*Please post about the challenge on your blog. Sign ups accepted until Nov 1, 2016.

Clocks, Cogs and Mechanisms Reading Challenge 2016 - Sign Up

Clocks, Cogs and Mechanisms Reading Challenge 2016 hosted by Writing Our Fairy Tale.

I read a few steampunk books and my husband is a steampunk author so this is definitely a challenge for me. I will start on the level Flight goggles: 4-6 books but might move up if I read more.

This challenge is now being updated on Goodreads.

This challenge was created back in 2012 for all the lovers of steampunk fiction that couldn’t find a reading challenge to match.  After missing a year, I brought it back for 2015.  The year didn’t go as planned for me and I didn’t do check-ins or or follow up posts on my blog, my goal is to do a lot better this  year.  Thank you for everyone who participated in 2015, I really hope you enjoyed reading Steampunk as much as I do.

Steampunk in case you did not know is an up and coming genre of fiction that takes place in older time periods, typically Victorian and involves lots of steam-powered technology. If you want some more information about steampunk follow the link for more information: Steampunk

This challenge runs from January 1st – December 31st.  Sign up ends September 30th, 2016.

What do I let count as steampunk?
You can count books like “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells and other books that are considered precursors to steampunk, I have no problem with you counting graphic novels like Full Metal Alchemist.

They do not have to be on a paper to count, your ebooks count as well.
You can also count these books towards other challenges.

Brass Gears: Read 1-3 steampunk books
Flight goggles: 4-6 books
Button-up boots: 7-12 books
Clockwork Corset: 13+ books

2016 Audiobook Challenge - Sign Up

2016 Audiobook Challenge hosted by The Book Nympho and Hot Listens.

I totally failed in this last year but that doesn't stop me from trying again. Last year I had hoped to read 10-15 books but only listened to 6.
This year I will start with the lowest level of newbie, listen to 1-5 books and if I get into it I might reach a higher level.

Back by popular demand, Audiobook Challenge is back for 2016! Join The Book Nympho and Hot Listens for the 4th year of great audiobooks.
Audiobooks are great for those times you want to read but can’t for some reason like driving, doing chores, working out, or if you’re one of the lucky ones like me, listen to them at work.
I know some of you are thinking, audiobooks? Pass. I thought that once too. But when you find a great narrator they can make the story even better. There are some series I will only listen even if I can get the Arc I’ll wait until the audio is available because the narrator does such a great job bring the book to life.

reading challenge details:

  • Runs January 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016. You can join at any time.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2016 than you did in 2015.
