Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux wakes from a year-long coma to find herself changed—an angel with wings the colors of midnight and dawn—but her fragile body needs time to heal before she can take flight. Her lover, the stunningly dangerous archangel, Raphael, is used to being in control—especially when it comes to the woman he considers his own. But Elena has never done well with authority.
They've barely begun to understand each other when Raphael receives an invitation to a ball from the archangel, Lijuan. To refuse would be a sign of fatal weakness, so Raphael must ready Elena for the flight to Beijing—and to the nightmare that awaits them there. Ancient and without conscience, Lijuan holds a power that lies with the dead. And she has organized the most perfect and most vicious of welcomes for Elena.
From Goodreads.

This series is getting more interesting. Elena has been made an angel, the first in a very very long time and not everybody is happy. Elena also has to fight the nightmares from her childhood that is haunting her. It is not easy being both hunter-born and now also an angel. I will try and get the next book from the library some time next week.

Dansk Readathon March 2014 Finished

Dansk Readathon hosted by Simone fra Boghjørnet.

It has been fun to take part in a Danish Readathon. We weren't many taking part but when it is all about reading that is okay.

This Readathon was hosted by Simone and Irene. I know Anne-Li, Den lille bogblog, Gitte, og Sabrina also took part in this.

I knew I wasn't going to take part the whole 24 hours as I have plans for today and I needed my sleep, but I still managed to read for approximately 17 hours I think. In this time I read 3½ books, 1006 pages in total and as usual I deviated from my  list.

Questions from Boghjørnet.

1. Hvor meget – og hvad – har du fået læst? How much - and What - have you read?
  1. Forever Fae by L.P. Dover (316)
  2. Two Weeks with a SEAL by Theresa Marguerite Hewitt (336)
  3. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (304)
  4. Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh (on page 150 of 323)
2. Hvad var det bedste du læste? Which book did you enjoy most?
The Graveyard Book

3. Og hvad var mindre godt? Which did you enjoy least:
Two Weeks with a SEAL

4. Hvornår havde du mest svært ved at holde dig vågen og koncentreret om bøgerne? When did you have the most difficulties keeping awake and concentrating on the books?
Around 1.30 am which also made me go to bed just after 2am when I had finished The Graveyard Book.

Dansk Readathon March 2014 Update#3

Dansk Readathon hosted by Simone fra Boghjørnet.

I have finished my third book. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - 304 pages. This has been the best read so far this Readathon.

Now I will go to bed for a while and then hope to get a few more hours of reading done before the end of the Readathon.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

In The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman has created a charming allegory of childhood. Although the book opens with a scary scene--a family is stabbed to death by "a man named Jack” --the story quickly moves into more child-friendly storytelling. The sole survivor of the attack--an 18-month-old baby--escapes his crib and his house, and toddles to a nearby graveyard. Quickly recognizing that the baby is orphaned, the graveyard's ghostly residents adopt him, name him Nobody ("Bod"), and allow him to live in their tomb. Taking inspiration from Kipling’s The Jungle Book, Gaiman describes how the toddler navigates among the headstones, asking a lot of questions and picking up the tricks of the living and the dead. In serial-like episodes, the story follows Bod's progress as he grows from baby to teen, learning life’s lessons amid a cadre of the long-dead, ghouls, witches, intermittent human interlopers. A pallid, nocturnal guardian named Silas ensures that Bod receives food, books, and anything else he might need from the human world. Whenever the boy strays from his usual play among the headstones, he finds new dangers, learns his limitations and strengths, and acquires the skills he needs to survive within the confines of the graveyard and in wider world beyond. From Goodreads.

This was very good and quite different. An orphaned boy who grows up in a graveyard and is looked after by ghosts. There is a very dark side to this story but nothing too graphic. It is a children's book so an easy read.

Dansk Readathon March 2014 Update #2

Dansk Readathon hosted by Simone fra Boghjørnet.

I have now read two books. The second being Two Weeks with a SEAL by Theresa Marguerite Hewitt - 336 pages. Again an okay book but not that special.

This means I have now read 652 pages.

As the books I have read haven't been great and even though the next book on my list is the one I have been looking forward to, I have decided to read a book that is not on my list. My next book will be The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.

Hopefully I will last a few hours more before I have to have a wee snooze.

Two Weeks with a SEAL by Theresa Marguerite Hewitt

Rhea Griggs has had a hard life. Growing up with an abusive father who's now in jail, her older brother, Randy, was a source of strength, along with his best friend Chad, who Rhea has been in love with since childhood. When her brother and Chad go off in the Navy, eventually becoming SEALs, Rhea thinks she'll never be with Chad. What she doesn't know is that Chad has loved her for just as long, keeping his feelings at bay out of respect and fear of his best friend.
When heartbreak strikes Rhea, Chad knows he has to let her know how he feels or lose her forever to a no good redneck. Can two weeks be enough time to bring their hearts together as they should be? Can Rhea handle what comes with loving a SEAL?
From Goodreads.

Unfortunately another just okay romance. Rhea and Chad have loved each other since they were children just never told each other as such. It is rather predictable, of course they get around to saying it. Then there is the "bad guy", Rhea's on-off one night stand who suddenly, but not very convincingly, wants her. It's emotional and is also a lot about loss.

Dansk Readathon March 2014 Update #1

Dansk Readathon hosted by Simone fra Boghjørnet.

I have finished my first book Forever Fae by L.P. Dover - 316 pages. It was okay but predictable.

Now that I have had lunch I am ready for my next book which is a romance: Two Weeks with a SEAL by Theresa Marguerite Hewitt.

Forever Fae by L.P. Dover

He leans down, lips parted, and then our lips connect... We didn’t know that this one kiss has FOREVER changed the Land of the Fae.
According to the Prophecy proclaimed many years ago, Princess Calista of the Summer Court is destined to change the Land of the Fae from the evil determined to destroy it. Her powers are phenomenal, and she secretly trains for battle with her handsome warrior friend, Merrick, who unbeknownst to her protects her heart as well, in hopes of keeping it for himself. At least, until the seductive Prince Ryder attends the Guardian Ceremony and instantly sends a fire burning through her veins and a connection so deep they both discover a love above anything imaginable.
No one knows how Calista is destined to change the kingdoms, but there is one that does. He not only craves Calista’s power, but her body as well, and his goal is to steal her power, make her his Dark Queen, and take over the Land of the Fae.
Will the evil succeed in claiming Calista’s soul? Or will the two men that fight for her heart save her from despair, and help her fulfill her destiny to become what she was meant to be.
From Goodreads.

This was okay but no more than that. I like to read about the Fae and usually the Summer and Winter Courts are at each others throats but not here, so there is really only one enemy. The rest is two men wanting the same girl. It was very predictable and I don't think I will continue this series.

Dansk Readathon March 2014

Dansk Readathon March 2014 Start

Dansk Readathon hosted by Simone fra Boghjørnet.

I have decided my first book is going to be Forever Fae by L.P. Dover.

Questions from Boghjørnet.

1. Har du planglagt, hvad du skal læse? –Hvis ja, hvor meget og hvad? Have you planned your reading? If Yes, how much and what?
Yes I have planned to read 3 books. Forever Fae by L.P. Dover, Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh, Two Weeks with a SEAL by Theresa Marguerite Hewitt. But as usual that might change as my list has more books.

2. Hvad ser du mest frem til at læse? What are you most looking forward to read?
I think that must be Archangels's Kiss by Nalini Singh.

3. Hvad skal du snacke med? What kind of snacks are you going to have?
As I joined this last night I have not planned for any snacks.

4. Hvad glæder du dig mest til under dette readathon? Og hvad bliver mindre sjovt? What are you most looking forward to during this Readathon? And what is going to be less fun?
I always like the excuse of a readathon to just read all day long. For me there is usually nothing less fun about a readathon.

Yesterday I discovered that Simone and Irene from a Danish group on Goodreads were hosting a 24 hour Readathon from 10am today. #readathondk

I like taking part in Readathons and I joined even though I know I am not going to be able to read all 24 hours. This will also, along with Crazy Challenge Connection 2014 RaT #2, which I am also taking part in just now, help me get started on the books I need to read for all my challenges in March.

My goal will be to read 3 books.

List of books:
  1. Forever Fae by L.P. Dover for Key Word and Motif challenges.
  2. Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh for Jumble Your Genres.
  3. Two Weeks with a SEAL by Theresa Marguerite Hewitt for RRRC Pass the Parcel.
  4. Hell of a Journey: On Foot Through the Scottish Highlands in Winter by Mike Cawthorne
  5. Death du Jour by Kathy Reichs
