A Million More Pages - Hogwarts: Clue - Finished

Clue hosted by A Million More Pages on Goodreads.

I have now finished two games of Clue and it has been quite fun. I didn't win either but I am fine with that and I will definitely take part again.

AMMP Clue Game: ROUND 4

Object: Be the first detective to determine which Suspect killed Mr. Boddy, in which Room and using which Weapon.

Rules:
The game will be played between 3-6 people and will end when someone correctly guesses the Suspect, Room and Weapon. We will use Rooms from the Clue game board and two dice. To play, sign up in the sign up thread, you will be paired with others, and we will create a separate discussion thread for your game. The Mod will determine the murder Suspect, Weapon and Room and will "deal" you your hand by sending you a private message (PM).

Once you have finished your turn, you can immediately start another turn. You don't have to wait for the other players to take their turns. When playing the game, please be considerate of the others playing and respond to their messages within one day.

Rereads are allowed.

Books must be started AFTER your dice roll.

Levels of Play
We want to try and match players with others of similar reading habits. When signing up, please indicate at which of the 3 levels you'll play:

Casual Reader: up to 70 books per year
Heavy Reader: 70-140 books per year
Fanatic Reader: more than 140 books per year

How to play:

1. Roll the dice. You can choose the number on either of your dice or add the two numbers together to choose your move.

Example: you roll 5 + 3
5 is the Library
3 is the Conservatory
5 + 3 = 8 is the Lounge

The dice numbers represent the following rooms/choices:
1- Return to Last Room Best Epic Fantasy List
2- Ballroom All Time Favorite Romance Novels List
3- Conservatory Best Historical Fiction List
4- Billiard Room Best Crime & Mystery Books
5- Library Best Horror Novels List
6- Study 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die List
7- Hall Best Young Adult Books List
8- Lounge Best Non-Fiction Books List
9- Dining Room Best Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Books List
10- Kitchen Thrillers Book List
11- Stay Where You Are Best Dystopian and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction List
12- Secret Passage to Any Room- When using a Secret Passage, choose one of your opponents, visit their home page, click on the "Compare Books" link, and choose one book to read that you both have in common.

2. To Enter A Room and Make a Suggestion:

Choose from one of these options-

OPTION 1:
Each room has a designated book list. Click on the link for that list and choose one book to read.

OPTION 2: MATCH the first letter of either your Suspect OR Weapon OR Room with the first letter in your book's title OR the author's first or last name.

Suspects:
Miss Scarlet- S
Colonel Mustard- M
Professor Plum- P
Mr. Green- G
Mrs. White- W
Mrs. Peacock- P

Weapons:
Rope- R
Lead Pipe- L
Knife- K
Wrench- W
Candlestick- C
Pistol- P

**This is a change from the ROUND 1 and 2 games. You will only read 1 book per turn, and you have a choice which option to use. You do not have to fulfill both options with your book choice.

Make a suggestion to the designated player on your discussion thread (player designation will be assigned by Mod at start of game). You can make your suggestion before you finish your book, but your turn will not be complete until you finish your book and post your book's title, date completed and rating.

4. To Prove Someone True or False: Post either "I can prove you wrong," OR "I cannot prove you wrong," on the discussion thread. If you can prove them wrong (meaning you have one of those cards in your hand), THEN send that player a PM stating which card (choose only one card) you have.

5. If the first person cannot prove you wrong, then make your suggestion to the next designated player on the list and so on until either someone proves you wrong or you've asked all other players.

6. Your turn ends when someone has told you which card they have AND you have read your book. You may then begin another turn by rolling the dice.

Making a Final Accusation:
You can make a final accusation at the start of any new turn. You DO NOT have to be in the room you're guessing. Simply state in your discussion thread that you're making your final accusation and which suspect, weapon and room you are guessing. The Mod will tell you whether you are right or wrong. If you are wrong, you are done playing and the Mod will redistribute your cards to the other players. If you are right, YOU WIN!

If you have questions about these rules, please see the Questions Thread

Meows, Magic & Murder by Madison Johns

Petunia Patterson’s life was turned upside down when she discovered a body in her new neighbor, Noah Becker's back yard. It’s bad enough that her cat, Pansy, had gotten into his house—especially when Pansy wasn’t a cat at all, but Jeremy Walters, a man she gave a love potion to, which transformed him into a cat.
Soon Petunia was a person of interest and she teams up with Noah to clear her name when all the evidence points to Petunia. If they don’t figure who the Knitting Needle Killer was, and soon, would she be the one that would have to answer for the crimes?
From Goodreads.

A quite fun, cosy mystery. Petunia is not a witch or so she says. That she by mistake has turned an ex boyfriend into a cat has nothing to do with witchcraft, that is just a love potion gone bad. I will be keeping an eye out for the next book in this series.

The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness

After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, the second book in Deborah Harkness’s enchanting series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home at Sept-Tours, they reunite with the cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches--with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency. In the trilogy’s final volume, Harkness deepens her themes of power and passion, family and caring, past deeds and their present consequences. In ancestral homes and university laboratories, using ancient knowledge and modern science, from the hills of the Auvergne to the palaces of Venice and beyond, the couple at last learn what the witches discovered so many centuries ago. From Goodreads

It has been a while since I read the second book in this series but that was not a problem, I was soon back into it.
Diana and Matthew are still looking for the missing pages of Ashmole 782 but at the same time a lot of other trouble that is all connected is mounting around them. Diana is a strong heroine that will fight with her life to ensure the safety of her family and so will Matthew. This is also necessary when an evil son of Matthew's rears his ugly self and threatens not only Diana but also their children in search of power and revenge.
This is the final book in the series but I would not mind if Deborah Harkness decided to write more as there is a lot of potential with not only Diana and Matthew but also the twins or Gallowglass.

High Heels in New York by A.V. Scott

"Melissa De La Rosa has never felt luckier. She is to marry her ideal man, and about to launch her shoe line during the coveted fashion week in New York. But in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart when tragedy strikes, unleashing a string of events she never in her wildest dreams anticipated.
Then there’s Angelina, is a Hollywood has-been who can’t break her addiction to drugs, which she basically needs to actually function. Banking on her latest picture to launch her back into Hollywood royalty, a long kept secret vows to destroy the life she’s so carefully crafted.
In the city that never sleeps, secrets are never truly hidden."
  From Goodreads.

This wasn't good. The author has cramped way too many bad events into this book, it is just too much. I will not continue this series even though this book ended on a cliffhanger.

The Parent Pact by Laurie Kellogg

Cinderella and Prince Charming never had to consider the welfare of their children.
When widower Tyler Fitzpatrick meets Annie Barnes at his daughter’s school, his libido goes tilt. The sexy single mother is everything he and his grieving little girl need. Unfortunately, Annie flatly refuses his dinner invitation. She wants a husband and a father for her son—not just a boyfriend. And the last time she checked, wealthy, summa-cum-laude lawyers didn’t marry high-school-drop-out housekeepers.
Tyler concedes there’s a vast difference between their experiences and lifestyles. Still, he’s inexplicably drawn to the impoverished young woman—even though her little boy reminds Tyler of an underprivileged past he’d rather forget. While becoming better acquainted, he offers Annie a job caring for his daughter and home in Redemption, PA. He also proposes a Parent Pact—an agreement to become role models to each other’s child and to fill one another’s needs as single parents while they continue to search for true love.
Accepting Tyler’s offer would solve a lot of Annie’s problems. However, surrendering to her weak-in-the-knees attraction to the irresistible widower could very well leave her and her son heartbroken. Yet, when circumstances threaten her ability to feed her child, Annie reluctantly agrees to the pact, making it clear she has no desire for Tyler to fill her so-called needs in bed. It’s a bald-faced lie, but she knows the man’s desperation to give his daughter the nurturing she needs will compel him to accept a purely platonic relationship.
Now, Annie’s only problem is resisting the overwhelming temptation to let sin-in-a-tailored-suit Tyler seduce her.

An okay romance. Quite unbelievable but still okay. Sweet with the kids.

Raven's Key: A Novel by Siomonn Pulla

Siomonn Pulla's first e-novel is a fast-paced new age adventure with a most unlikely cast of characters. This book is quirky and probably unlike anything you've ever read before. An ancient Sumerian King has hired a shape shifting Raven to steal sacred objects from museum's around the world. A Museum curator and her assistant, a young anthropology graduate student, discover that they are running out of time in this quest to restore the ancient balance of light and dark forces. Together with members from the ancient Council of Light, they must track down the shape shifting Raven, locate the stolen objects and return them to the council. Nearly out of time, they must journey to discover the key to unlocking humanity's shift into the new consciousness of 2012. From Goodreads.

This was quite interesting. Basically we have two different races of aliens. One good and one bad, but as there often is, there is a lot of grey in-between. There are also several different species of immortals and a few humans that got mixed into the mess. This is as far as I can figure out a standalone but I wouldn't mind reading more about some of the characters. Especially Raven who is not quite as he seems.

Born in Fire by Nora Roberts

Maggie and Brianna Concannon are very different. The calm and gentle Brie seems able to weather any storm, even the constant criticism that rains down on them both from their mother, but Maggie is a passionate and fiery artist whose temper is as bold as her art. Their mother's bitterness is a mystery to the sisters. until secrets from the past challenge everything they've come to believe.
It's Maggie's skill as a glass blower that brings Rogan Sweeney, the international gallery owner, to her small cottage in County Clare.
His interest in her is purely professional, until their personalities clash and sparks begin to fly... As her career takes off, how will Maggie cope with the heat of the spotlight and feelings for Rogan that she would rather ignore? From the back of the book.

This was very good, not just a quick romance. There is a lot about family and what makes Maggie who she is and why she has decided never to marry. The relationships with her father, mother and sister are all very interesting. Rogan is a successful businessman and thinks he can keep business and private life separate but of course that is impossible. I will try to get the next in the series from the library.

Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews

The Edge lies between worlds, on the border between the Broken, where people shop at Walmart and magic is a fairytale–and the Weird, where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny…
Cerise Mar and her unruly clan are cash poor but land rich, claiming a large swathe of the Mire, the Edge swamplands between the state of Louisiana and the Weird. When her parents vanish, her clan’s long-time rivals are suspect number one.
But all is not as it seems. Two nations of the Weird are waging a cold war fought by feint and espionage, and their conflict is about to spill over into the Edge—and Cerise’s life . William, a changeling soldier who left behind the politics of the Weird, has been forced back into service to track down a rival nation’s spymaster.
When William’s and Cerise’s missions lead them to cross paths, sparks fly—but they’ll have to work together if they want to succeed…and survive.
From Goodreads.

This was a great second book in this series. When I read the first book I didn't realise that each book would be about different characters but that is okay. William we met in the first book and both he and Cerise are very likeable strong characters. I also liked the young people Gaston and Lark.

In Search of a Love Story by Rachel Schurig

Emily Donovan doesn’t have a romantic bone in her body.
At least, that’s what her friends Ryan and Ashley keep telling her. They’re convinced her bad luck with men is directly related to her life-long lack of interest in all things romantic. When Emily’s latest relationship crashes and burns, she decides to go along with her friends’ plans for a romance research project. Sure, the idea that she’ll have better luck if she learns about the great romances of literature and film seems a little silly, but Emily figures it can’t hurt.
In no time at all, Emily finds herself buried under a mountain of romance novels, chick flicks, and sappy love songs, hopeful that her hard work will pay off with true love. When she meets Greg, Ashley and Ryan are convinced she’s found prince charming—after all, he’s rich, handsome, and totally into Emily. What more could she want? And why does it seem that her friend Elliot isn’t exactly happy for her?
Faced with misunderstandings, miscommunications, and a seemingly endless string of missteps, she is nevertheless determined to give true love a try. In doing so, Emily will eventually find that true romance, the kind that lasts, has little to do with stereotypes or clichés, and everything to do with finding out what’s in her own heart.
From Goodreads.

Emily is, with the help of her friends, trying to find true love. This was quite a funny chick-lit romance. Emily is of course not seeing what is right in front of her. I liked her interaction with her Physical Therapist patients.

Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck

Passion. Fate. Loyalty.
Would you risk it all to change your destiny?
The last thing Kelsey Hayes thought she’d be doing this summer was trying to break a 300-year-old Indian curse. With a mysterious white tiger named Ren. Halfway around the world. But that’s exactly what happened. Face-to-face with dark forces, spellbinding magic, and mystical worlds where nothing is what it seems, Kelsey risks everything to piece together an ancient prophecy that could break the curse forever.
Tiger’s Curse is the exciting first volume in an epic fantasy-romance that will leave you breathless and yearning for more.
From Goodreads.

This was a very good read. I like the story about the curse and also that it is not that easy to break the curse. I had a small problem with the Indiana Jones references at the first part of the adventure but okay I just hope the author doesn't make more in the next books. I did like getting to know a bit of the Indian culture though it was quite basic and stuff I had heard of before. It is a sweet romance between Kelsey and Ren. This is YA and therefore an easy quick read.

Shenanigans by T.B. Bond

Meet Edward Richards. She’s your typical girl (if you overlook the fact that she has a man’s name and is a succubus), but when she meets Jackson Loren everything changes. Jackson is hot, fun, and stubborn. He always has an argument for why he should get his way and Edward is having trouble disagreeing. When their first date goes horribly wrong both of them are forever changed.
Fast forward four years and the two of them reconnect. Things heat up with a series of hijinks, interfering sisters, and a supernatural body-switching governess. All the two of them want is to just go on a simple date and be normal in this tale of love, sex, and magic.
From Goodreads.

This was okay but it is at the very low end of three stars. I like the family in this one. Father is human but very special and basically has 6 daughters with 6 different paranormal women. All the girls live with him and have male names. Edward the main character of this book is a succubus but she is young and does not kill people. But because of her, Jackson got turned into a werewolf. 4 years later they meet again and are drawn to each other.
The story didn't feel finished and I am sure that Edward and Jackson's story will continue in the next book though according to the blurb it is one of Edward's sisters and Jackson's room-mate that are going to be the main characters of that book.
