Clue hosted by A Million More Pages on Goodreads.
The heavy game finished long ago but we have been very slow in playing the casual game and I also forgot to check in. Zu guessed right and won the game. This was fun though and I know there is a new challenge coming at some point. If I see it I will take part again.
AMMP Clue Game: ROUND 5
Object: Be the first detective to determine which Suspect killed Mr. Boddy, in which Room and using which Weapon.
Rules:
The
game will be played between 3-6 people and will end when someone
correctly guesses the Suspect, Room and Weapon. We will use Rooms from
the Clue game board and two dice. To play, sign up in the sign up
thread, you will be paired with others, and we will create a separate
discussion thread for your game. The Mod will determine the murder
Suspect, Weapon and Room and will "deal" you your hand by sending you a
private message (PM).
Once you have finished your turn, you can
immediately start another turn. You don't have to wait for the other
players to take their turns. When playing the game, please be
considerate of the others playing and respond to their messages within
one day.
Rereads are allowed.
Books must be started AFTER your dice roll.
Levels of Play
We
want to try and match players with others of similar reading habits.
When signing up, please indicate at which of the 3 levels you'll play:Casual Reader: up to one book every 7 days
Heavy Reader: up to one book every 3 days
Fanatic Reader: no book limit!
How to play:
1. Roll the dice. You can choose the number on either of your dice or add the two numbers together to choose your move.
Example: you roll 5 + 3
5 is the Library
3 is the Conservatory
5 + 3 = 8 is the Lounge
The dice numbers represent the following rooms/choices:
1- Return to Last Room Best Epic Fantasy List
2- Ballroom All Time Favorite Romance Novels List
3- Conservatory Best Historical Fiction List
4- Billiard Room Best Crime & Mystery Books
5- Library Best Horror Novels List
6- Study 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die List
7- Hall Best Young Adult Books List
8- Lounge Best Non-Fiction Books List
9- Dining Room Best Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Books List
10- Kitchen Thrillers Book List
11- Stay Where You Are Best Dystopian and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction List
12-
Secret Passage to Any Room- When using a Secret Passage, choose one of
your opponents, visit their home page, click on the "Compare Books"
link, and choose one book to read that you both have in common.
2. To Enter A Room and Make a Suggestion:
Choose from one of these options-
OPTION 1:
Each room has a designated book list. Click on the link for that list and choose one book to read.
OPTION
2: MATCH the first letter of either your Suspect OR Weapon OR Room with
the first letter in your book's title OR the author's first or last
name.
Suspects:
Miss Scarlet- S
Colonel Mustard- M
Professor Plum- P
Mr. Green- G
Mrs. White- W
Mrs. Peacock- P
Weapons:
Rope- R
Lead Pipe- L
Knife- K
Wrench- W
Candlestick- C
Pistol- P
**This is a change from the ROUND 1 and 2 games. You will only read 1
book per turn, and you have a choice which option to use. You do not
have to fulfill both options with your book choice.
Make a
suggestion to the designated player on your discussion thread (player
designation will be assigned by Mod at start of game). You can make
your suggestion before you finish your book, but your turn will not be
complete until you finish your book and post your book's title, date
completed and rating.
4. To Prove Someone True or False:
Post either "I can prove you wrong," OR "I cannot prove you wrong," on
the discussion thread. If you can prove them wrong (meaning you have one
of those cards in your hand), THEN send that player a PM stating which
card (choose only one card) you have.
5. If the first person
cannot prove you wrong, then make your suggestion to the next designated
player on the list and so on until either someone proves you wrong or
you've asked all other players.
6. Your turn ends when someone
has told you which card they have AND you have read your book. You may
then begin another turn by rolling the dice.
Making a Final Accusation:
You
can make a final accusation at the start of any new turn. You DO NOT
have to be in the room you're guessing. Simply state in your discussion
thread that you're making your final accusation and which suspect,
weapon and room you are guessing. The Mod will tell you whether you are
right or wrong. If you are wrong, you are done playing and the Mod will
redistribute your cards to the other players. If you are right, YOU WIN!
If you have questions about these rules, please see the Questions Thread

A Million More Pages - Hogwarts: Butterbeer Recipe - Finished
A team challenge. Each team has a member from all four houses. My team was Team 1. This was quite fun with a lot of different tasks like writing reviews so others could respond and the of course I had to respond to other peoples reviews too.
I did well in this challenge as I got the maximum 9 points, unfortunately two of my team-mates missed the deadline and only got 1 point each. Luckily for me we got points individually.
February is here. It’s still cold outside. What a great time to bring a friend or sweetheart to share some good conversation and a great Butterbeer!
This challenge is a recipe challenge. Find all the ingredients to earn points. This challenge is a team of four. The twist is the teams of four people have to be from different Houses. Each team must have a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.
What to do:
♡ Sign up by saying what house you are in. I’ll make a list and you’ll be teamed up with your team using a random generator.
♡ January 31, 2015 11:59 (PST) is last sign up day.
♡ Once the teams have been made, post a message by one member for your team to keep track of tasks. This will make it easier for me to see if you have completed all elements of the challenge.
Points:
♡ If you finish this challenge you earn 8 points.
♡ If you only participate (reading at least one book) and not finish the challenge you get 1 point.
Points of Interest:
♡ On February 1, I’ll be making the teams with a random generator and fill in any teams needed.
♡ Teams will be posted by February 8.
♡ On the week of February 8-14, 2015 you will be given time to plan with your team.
♡ If there are an odd number of people in a team, I will post in your common room for any players.
♡ If there are no takers when I post for more players, you may play a second game.
♡ If there is a team that needs an extra player you may play a second game but only earn 4 more points for the second game.
♡ If you play a third game you can only earn 2 points for the third game. If you play a fourth game you can only earn 1 point for the fourth game. (This means you can only play 4 times. Meaning you have the opportunity to earn up to 15 points.)
♡ I will make a reserve for the players willing to play a second game.
♡ It's up to you to keep in touch with your team. (You can PM each other, post in the forum, or even make a temporary GR group)
♡ You cannot use the same books from team to team. (This only applies if you play more than one game.)
♡ You will be reading about 3 to 4 books during this challenge.
♡ You may use YA and Children’s books. Page count for book must be at least 125. For YA and Children’s books page count must be at least 150 pages.

Handling The Horcruxes hosted by A Million More Pages on Goodreads.
I finished this challenge in just over a month and was awarded full points.
Without giving away too much of the books, I thought it would be fun to build a challenge around the seven horcruxes that appear throughout the Harry Potter novels.
❖This will be a 2 month challenge.
❖Each book must come from a different horcrux option.
❖Identify the horcrux # and the option when you post your finished book.
❖Books must be new to you. No re-reads!
❖You must give a book rating with your post to count the book as finished.
❖Be sure to shelve each completed book in your house MMP bookshelf for verification by the MODs.
❖Identify your house when signing up!
Level 1 - 3 books = 2 points
Level 2 - 5 books = 4 points
Level 3 - 7 books = 6 points
#1 . The Diary.
The word diary comes from the Latin diarium ("daily allowance," from dies "day"). The earliest use of the word to mean a book in which a daily record was written was in Ben Jonson's comedy Volpone in 1605. A personal diary may include a person's experiences, and/or thoughts or feelings, including comment on current events outside the writer's direct experience.
❖Read a book with a writing instrument on the cover.
❖Read a book that has "books about books" on its main page.
❖Read a book that is told from the First Person Point Of View:
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
#2. Marvolo Gaunt's Ring.
A ring is a decorative ornament worn on fingers, toes, or around the arm or neck. It frequently contains jewels or precious stones. The custom of giving and receiving finger rings dates back over approximately 6,000 years. The use of the fourth finger of the left hand (the 'ring finger') is associated with an old belief that the left hand's ring finger is connected by a vein directly to the heart: the vena amoris or vein of love. This idea was known in 16th and 17th century England, when Henry Swinburne referred to it in his book about marriage.
*Read a book with a hand wearing a ring on the cover
*Read a book that contains the letters R*I*N*G in the title, subtitle, or series name.
*Read a book where a wedding takes place.
A Million Wishes by DeAnna Felthauser (the two MC get married)
#3. Salazar Slytherin's Locket.
A locket is a pendant that opens to reveal a space used for storing a photograph or other small item such as a curl of hair. Lockets are usually given to loved ones on holidays such as Valentine's Day and occasions such as Christenings, weddings and, most noticeably during the Victorian Age, funerals. Lockets are generally worn on chains around the neck and often hold a photo of the person who gave the locket.
❖Read a book with a necklace on cover.
❖Read a book in which a gift plays an important role in the story.
❖Read a book that has romance as a main page genre.
Summer of Change by Elena Aitken
#4. Helga Hufflepuff's Cup.
Since cups have been an integral part of dining since time immemorial, they have become a valued part of human culture. The shape or image of a cup appears in various places in human cultures. Many trophies take the form of a large, decorated cup. In the case of the FIFA World Cup or the Sprint Cup Series, the competition itself may grow to take on the name of the trophy that is awarded to the winner. Owing to the common usage of cup-shaped trophies as prizes for the winners, a large number of national and international competitions are called "cups".
❖Read a book that features a competition of some sort.
❖Read a book that shows a cup, glass, mug, or trophy on cover.
Blood Echo by Melissa Simonson
❖Read a book which has two sets of double letters in the title.
#5. Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem.
A diadem is a type of crown, specifically an ornamental headband worn by Eastern monarchs and others as a badge of royalty. The term originally referred to the embroidered white silk ribbon, ending in a knot and two fringed strips often draped over the shoulders, that surrounded the head of the king to denote his authority. Such ribbons were also used to crown victorious athletes in important sports games in antiquity. It was later applied to a metal crown, generally in a circular or "fillet" shape. A diadem is also a jewelled ornament in the shape of a half crown, worn by women and placed over the forehead (in this sense, also called tiara). In some societies, it may be a wreath worn around the head. The ancient Persians wore a high and erect royal tiara encircled with a diadem. By extension, "diadem" can be used generally for an emblem of regal power or dignity, such as the head regalia worn by Roman Emperors.
❖Read a book that shows some type of crown from the above description on the cover.
❖Read a book that has a king or queen as the main character.
❖Read a book that shows a BLACK bird on the cover.
Raven's Key: A Novel by Siomonn Pulla
#6. Harry Potter (unknown to Voldemort)
The Harry Potter book series revolves around Harry Potter, an orphan who discovers at the age of eleven that he is a wizard, living within the ordinary world of non-magical people, known as Muggles. The main story arc concerns Harry's quest to overcome the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who aims to become immortal, conquer the wizarding world, subjugate non-magical people, and destroy all those who stand in his way, especially Harry Potter.
❖Read a book that has Magical Realism or Fantasy on its main page.
The Spirit of A Witch by Sarah Jane Avory
❖Read a book that shows a pair of reading glasses on the cover.
❖Read a book with the word "secret" or "surprise" in the title/subtitle
#7. Nagini the Snake.
Nagini, Voldemort's snake, is introduced in Goblet of Fire. She is a safeguard to Voldemort's immortality. Voldemort is able to communicate with Nagini due to his ability to speak Parseltongue, the language of snakes. Harry Potter is also able to speak Parseltongue.
❖Read a book with a snake on the cover
❖Read a book that contains an immortal character.
❖Read a book that takes place in a country where the native language is different from your own.

Participants will be randomly placed into teams. The goal of the team is to earn House Points for the pot. Every few days, a new task will be posted. Each round will last 2 weeks. Within those 2 weeks, players may read as many books that fit the tasks as they can. Each book finished will earn the team points. However, there is one player whose job is to keep points OUT of the pot. That player is the Death Eater. The Death Eater will be chosen by the Moderators and sent a PM with further instructions.
At the end of the round (every 2 weeks) a Quiz will be posted on the team's thread. The Quiz will ask questions about the identity of the Death Eater. Complete the Quiz and PM it to the Mod in charge of your game. The player who knows the least about the Death Eater, the player who answers the fewest questions correctly, will be eliminated from the game. If the Quiz ends in a tie, the player who returned their Quiz last will be eliminated. The Death Eater will never be eliminated because s/he will know all the answers.
The final round will consist of the Death Eater and the last 2 remaining players. At that time, a final round and quiz will be held. The winner and The Death Eater will be announced after the Final Quiz.
The Final Quiz will consist of questions that may or may not date back to the very beginning of the game.
The winner of the game is the person who correctly identifies the Death Eater the final week. That player will earn their House all the points from the pot. If no player can identify the Death Eater, the Death Eater wins the game and earns the points.
Points:
-Each player gets 3 participation points (except the winner of the pot)
-The last player standing, the one who ID’s the Death Eater the final round, gets the points in the pot

Task #4 (Last Task for This Round!)
On this day in 1959, the first Barbie doll goes on display at the American Toy Fair in New York City. Barbie was the first mass-produced toy doll in the United States with adult features. The woman behind Barbie was Ruth Handler. Barbie’s appearance was modeled on a doll named Lilli, based on a German comic strip character. Originally marketed as a racy gag gift to adult men in tobacco shops, the Lilli doll later became extremely popular with children. Mattel bought the rights to Lilli and made its own version, which Handler named after her daughter, Barbara.
Over the years, Barbie generated huge sales–and a lot of controversy. On the positive side, many women saw Barbie as providing an alternative to traditional 1950s gender roles. She has had a series of different jobs, from airline stewardess, doctor, pilot and astronaut to Olympic athlete and even U.S. presidential candidate. Others thought Barbie’s never-ending supply of designer outfits, cars and “Dream Houses” encouraged kids to be materialistic. It was Barbie’s appearance that caused the most controversy, however. Her tiny waist and enormous breasts–it was estimated that if she were a real woman, her measurements would be 36-18-38–led many to claim that Barbie provided little girls with an unrealistic and harmful example and fostered negative body image.
Despite the criticism, sales of Barbie-related merchandise continued to soar, topping 1 billion dollars annually by 1993. Since 1959, more than 800 million dolls in the Barbie family have been sold around the world and Barbie is now a bona fide global icon.
