Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2015. 

I didn't update as much as I usually do but even though I slept for about 2½ hours I managed to read 1032 pages in total which is only 31 pages less than last year. I guess this means that a wee sleep during the read-a-thon actually is good and I also feel much more awake right now than I usually have done at the end of a read-a-thon.

If in anyway possible I will take part in the next read-a-thon in October 2015.

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?  I had some problems staying awake around hour 12 but that was easy fixed by sleeping a couple of hours. It was a bit hard waking up though.
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?  If interested in paranormal books then Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs is good but it would be advisable to read the 3 other books in the series first.

The Woman In Black by Susan Hill

Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor in London, is summoned to Crythin Gifford to attend the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, and to sort through her papers before returning to London. It is here that Kipps first sees the woman in black and begins to gain an impression of the mystery surrounding her. From the funeral he travels to Eel Marsh House and sees the woman again; he also hears the terrifying sounds on the marsh.
Despite Kipps’s experiences he resolves to spend the night at the house and fulfil his professional duty. It is this night at Eel Marsh House that contains the greatest horror for Kipps. Kipps later discovers the reasons behind the hauntings at Eel Marsh House. The book ends with the woman in black exacting a final, terrible revenge. From Goodreads.





Another Horror book that I didn't find particularly scary. At least it was slightly scarier than The Haunting of Hill House and I felt sorry for Arthur that the ghost followed him.

It has now been nearly 12 hours and time for the Mid-Event Survey.

1. What are you reading right now?
I have just started The Woman in Black by Susan Hill

2. How many books have you read so far?
I have finished 2 books, in total 535 pages.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs if I even get to it.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I am lucky as I have had no interruptions.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
This being my 8th read-a-thon nothing really surprises me but at the same time I won a prize in hour 12 and that is great when we are so many taking part.

I wasn't wild about this book. The part in present day was okay and interesting though it at times was a bit too unrealistic and fantastical. I didn't like the historical part about Allan meeting all these different Heads of States and making himself invaluable to them, it seemed a bit too easy for him to get near them. A bit too political for me.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2015 - Update 1

10 hours in and it is time for an update. I have finished 2 books, in total 535 pages

First: The Tea Shop: Cakes, Ice Cream & Afternoon Tea by De-ann Black (139 pages) which was exactly as expected. A light, cosy, easy to read romance set in a Scottish seaside town.

second: The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson (396 pages) I liked the part of this book set in present time starting with Allan climbing out of the window. I did not like the whole looking back in time and all the politics in that part.

I have decided that I want to have a few hours sleep this time and actually thought it might be around now as it is just after midnight. But as I am not tired yet even though I have been awake for 16 hours I will just continue reading.

THE TEA SHOP: Cakes, Ice Cream & Afternoon Tea by De-ann Black

Jayne's job is to find suitable pop-up shops for businesses looking for temporary premises on the beautiful West Coast of Scotland.
Rich and handsome Brodan McBride, a master baker, becomes one of her new clients and opens a pop-up tea shop selling cakes, ice cream and afternoon tea in one of the busy seaside towns. She also meets Fergus, a gorgeous bespoke tailor who makes Brodan's expensive suits. Jayne's friend and hairdresser, Ceard, isn't sure that she should become romantically involved with either of them.

Another short, cute romance from De-ann Black. I seem to be returning to her books at the moment when I need something easy, very light and fluffy to read and I like that her books are set in Scotland.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2015 - Opening Meme

Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2015. 

 There is about half an hour to the start. I have had lunch and I know which book to start with. This is the second time the opening Meme is up early and I am a big fan of that.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I am reading from Øster Snede, a small village in Denmark. Joined by my twin-sister and later tonight when he gets off work my husband will also join us..

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? My sister has prepared dinner for us, which is great as I hate to cook. Then we also have enough sweets to be on a sugar high the whole 24 hours.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I go on canoeing trips and love bringing my kindle. I also go for walks which is the only time I listen to audiobooks.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? This is my 8th RaT and I have decided that this year I want to sleep for a few hours during the read-a-thon instead of staying awake the whole 24 hours.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2015. 

Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2015 is only a few hours away. It is a bit hard that it doesn't start till 2pm my time as I have been awake for 6 hours already.

Usually one of my goals has been to stay awake the whole 24 hours but I have decided that this time I will sleep 3-4 hours during the read-a-thon. I hope to read about 750 pages in total maybe more as some of my books are quite easy to read.

As usual I have a long list of books to chose from and this time I think I will stick to my list as I need these books for a lot of other reading challenges I am taking part in.
