1000 Member Celebration hosted by Crazy Challenge Connection on Goodreads.
This was a hard challenge for me to get through and I found out as I was posting the last book that I had made it a lot harder than it was supposed to be.
Task #8 I on purpose decided to read an extra book which wasn't a problem. It was task #9 I totally misunderstood. It says to go to my TBR shelf and Sort by Random, then read book #10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 on that list. Between 90 and 100 there is an OR. This I totally overlooked and instead of just reading one book for this task I read 10.
I am really pleased I still managed to complete this challenge within the required time period.
Books:
✔ 1
– Southpaw was the group’s founder and very first member, but she has
since left the group. Since then, Barb, Angie, Suzanne, Chaitra and
Connie N. do their best to keep the group fun and running smoothly. Read
one book from any of their Goodreads shelves. Tell us who you chose, and which shelf the book is on.
NOTE:
There's one Barb, one Connie N. and one Chaitra in the group, but there
are two Angies and three Suzannes. If you're using their shelves for
any of the tasks in this challenge, make sure you're looking at the
member who's a mod :)
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is on Angie's to-read bookshelf
✔ 2 – Read a book whose number of pages is evenly divisible by 10 or has a 10 somewhere in the total pages (610, 1038) OR read TWO books between 100-110 pages long. Tell us how many pages are in the book/s:
The Tiger Princess by Sarah Renee (340 pages)
✔ 3
– Read a book with a single-digit number in the title. The number can
be spelled out or represented as a digit, but cardinal numbers only --
3, 4, 5 -- not third, fourth, fifth.
NOTE: Stand-alone numbers only! Compound numbers (203, 84, 1776) will NOT be accepted.
Rise of The Seven by Melissa Wright
✔ 4
– In the upper right corner of our group’s main page, click on Members.
Sort by “num comments.” Read one book from any shelf of any member (other than the mod you chose for task #1!)
who has posted more than 1000 comments. Tell us which member you chose,
how many comments they've made in the group, and which shelf the book
is on.
The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien - Amalia, 1171 comments, on her to-read (among others) bookshelf.
✔ 5 – Maureen was member #600, ღ εїз ќατιε εїз ღ (Katie) was #700, Michele
was #800, Liora was #900, and Courtney was #1000. Read a book in which
the first letter of EVERY WORD (ALL words count!) can be found in one of their names: MAUREEN, KATIE, MICHELE, LIORA or COURTNEY (minimum two-word title).
NOTE: Choose ONE name for this task, not a combination of names: MICHELE:
Illicit Magic by Camilla Chafer
✔ 6
– Read a book originally published in a year that has a 10 in it (must
include both numbers, in order -- only "10" will be accepted). Tell us when the book was originally published.
Angel by L.A. Weatherly (published 2010)
✔ 7
– Go to your To-Read list on Goodreads.
Sort by author, A-Z
, then read the 10th book on your list.
If the 10th book
is in the middle of a series that you're reading, you can read the next
book in the series instead of this specific title. Also, if the 10th
book is shorter than 150 pages, read book #9 or #11 on the list instead.
Legions by Karice Bolton
8 – Go to your To-Read list on Goodreads. Sort by title, Z-A, then read the 10th book on your list.
If
the 10th book is in the middle of a series that you're reading, you can
read the next book in the series instead of this specific title. Also,
if the 10th book is shorter than 150 pages, read book #9 or #11 on the
list instead.
As I can't get hold of Tomorrow, the Stars by Robert A. Heinlein I will read #9 and #11 on my list
The Undead Pool by Kim Harrison
and
Toby Streams the Universe by Maya Lassiter
✔ 9 – Go to your To-read list on Goodreads, set it to show 100 books per page. Sort by Random, then read book #10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 on that list.
✔ #10 Elfhunter by C.S. Marks
✔ #20 My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
✔ #30 The Alchemyst by Michael Scott
✔ #40 Altered Soul by Karice Bolton
✔ #50 Mother Nature's Man by Mary Jo Burke
✔ #60 Infernal Devices by K.W. Jeter
✔ #70 Promise by Kristie Cook (#1) (Devotion (#3) okay to read #1 instead)
✔ #80 Madman's Dance by Jana Oliver
✔ #90 Family Magic by Patti Larsen
✔ #100 Reckless by Cornelia Funke
✔ 10 – Read a book by an author whose first AND last initials can be found in ONETHOUSAND.
The Keepers by Donna Augustine
✔ 11 – Read a book by an author who has written 10 or more books. Tell us how many books the author has written:
Made to Be Broken by Kelley Armstrong (at least 26 + a lot of short stories)
Spell out THOUSAND. Use the first
letter of the first word of the book’s title (do NOT count A, An or
The), or the author's first or last initial (NO middle names/initials).
✔ 12 – T – Every Woman For Herself by Trisha Ashley
✔ 13 – H – Macaron Murder by Harper Lin
✔ 14 – O – Champagne and Lemon Drops by Jean Oram
✔ 15 – U – Untouched by Robert J. Crane
✔ 16 – S – Drip Drop Teardrop by Samantha Young

✔ 18 – N – Neanderthal Seeks Human: A Smart Romance by Penny Reid
✔ 19 – D – Drifting Home by Pierre Berton

CHALLENGE RULES:
:
♦ If you want to participate in this challenge, please sign up by posting at least a partial list of the challenge requirements. This gives us a post to link you to, which you can use to update your books as the challenge progresses.
♦
Unless otherwise noted, books must be at least 150 pages long. Books
may only be used for one task in this challenge, but cross-challenge
posting is encouraged :) Re-reads are allowed, as long as you read the
entire book and not simply skim through it.
♦ For each book you read, please post a link to the title, and indicate the author and the date you finished reading it. If
a challenge task gives several options, please make it clear which
option you’ve chosen. If the task calls for an item on the cover,
include a link to the book cover.* If it’s not obvious from the book
title or cover, be sure to explain how your book fits the task. If you
don’t, you won’t get credit for completing that task.
* If you don’t know how to post a link to the book title, cover or author, see the instructions here:
Add a link to the book title, book cover and/or author
♦ If you use books that are in a language other than
English, please translate those titles into English for the purposes of
our challenges, unless you plan to use that language for the entire
challenge. If you do use another language for the whole challenge,
please remember that the translations of exempt words/phrases -- for
example, A, An and The in most spelling challenges -- would be exempt as
well.
♦ When you complete the challenge, please post your entire list as a new message
to make it easier for everyone to see what you’ve read :) If you do
this while you still have the Edit window open, it will copy all of your
formatting, etc. too. If you don’t repost your list, your name will not
be added to the list of those who have completed the challenge.

Toby Streams the Universe by Maya Lassiter
Then a voice speaks in Toby's mind, offering a path away from the dark future predicted by the Family Histories--if only Toby will challenge what his father taught him and learn to use his visions, rather than merely control them. Now Toby must find his father, uncover the identity of the voice, and save his friends from their futures, all while figuring out how to live inside his own, increasingly strange mind. From Goodreads.
This was better than I expected. This is Toby's journey to find a way to escape insanity. I like the way he tries to help people change their sad futures even if they think him a stalker in the process. I will definitely read more by Maya Lassiter at some point.

Elfhunter by C.S. Marks
This is okay but no more, it is a bit too much a copy of LOTR. There is an evil that the elves have been fighting for millennia. There is a ring, not the same purpose but still an important ring. Elfgirl and ranger together, and a stone to look in to see the past and the possible future. I have the next two books but I am not convinced I will read them.

Promise by Kristie Cook
Alexis Ames has a life full of promise...but not all promises can be kept.
When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can't be real, she decides it's time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family's secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy...until she discovers he's not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel.
Their union brings hope and promise to her family's secret society, the Angels' army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy - Satan's minions and Tristan's creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell. From Goodreads.
Alexis doesn't know what she is, she just knows she is not quite like the other teenagers. She and her mother has moved a lot and Alexis never fit in anywhere. She is surprised when Tristan shows an interest in her. This book kind of finishes in the middle of things but then the author in her foreword has actually written that this book and the second was meant to be one. I have the next two books and will most likely read them.

Reckless by Cornelia Funke
Through a mirror is a
dangerous world. For years, Jacob Reckless has enjoyed its secrets and
treasures. Not any more. His younger brother has followed him. Now dark
magic will turn the boy to beast, break the heart of the girl he loves,
and cause chaos to rule forever... Unless Jacob can find a way to save
them. You thought you knew about fairy tales? Think again. From Goodreads. This is very different from the Inkheart books but it is still good. I enjoyed reading about Jacob and Will's quest to save Will from becoming a Goyl, a stone like creature. Only problem is we are more or less thrown into the middle of the story. I would like to have known more about the attack on Will and also more about Clara and Will's relationship as it actually doesn't seem that strong. I did like Fox and it will be interesting to see what happens to her in the next book.

Family Magic by Patti Larsen
Sixteen-year-old
Sydlynn Hayle is the daughter of a powerful witch and a demon lord of
the seventh plane. The trouble is, she just wants to be ordinary. Syd
struggles to survive the minefield of her new high school while being
torn between her attraction to football hero Brad Peters and the darkly
mysterious Quaid Moromond. When her coven comes under attack, Syd is
forced to face the fact only her power can save her family’s magic. From Goodreads.
Another book I have had on my TBR list for ages. Syd is half witch, half demon and just wants to be ordinary. She is 16 and just can't wait till she is 18 so she can have her powers removed. Of course she instead needs to use her powers to save her family and during this finds out a lot more about her own powers. A lot of teenage high school angst and bullying in this book as well.

Madman's Dance by Jana Oliver
Her two Victorian friends are facing equal difficulties: Dr. Alastair Montrose is caught between his duty to uncover the truth and powerful foes who wish it buried. Once lauded as a hero, Detective-Sergeant Jonathon Keats is on the run, framed for a woman's heinous murder. Keats' arch enemy, Desmond Flaherty, can prove him innocent, but the Fenian isn't about to come forward, not with the life of his only daughter on the line.
If the anarchist's cache of explosives ignites the biggest conflagration since the Great Fire of 1666, the future will change. There will be no sanctuary from the Madman's Dance. From Goodreads.
It has taken me way too long to get to this last book of the Time Rovers series. This continues right where book two finished but as it is 1½ years since I read that book, it took me a bit to sort the characters. I still enjoyed it very much and it had a romance that I hadn't seen coming. I have now read both series which Jana Oliver has written and I will definitely read anything she writes in the future no matter the genre.

Mother Nature's Man by Mary Jo Burke
When Niall Calhoun walks into my life, he's everything I've hoped for. Tall, dark, sweet, and gorgeous: the true four food groups. A mere touch of his hand and my libido roars to life. But is he champion material?
Meanwhile, dark forces are plotting against me and calling my abilities into question. I've got to battle forest fires, soothe the oceans, appease my mother, turn Niall into Mr. Exactly Right, and have a baby in the next year. Can a goddess and her champion handle all that and still find time to fall in love? From Goodreads.
This was okay. Siobhan might be a Goddess but she has to follow a lot of rules and regulations especially about who to mate and have a child with. Love has nothing to do with it.

My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
She doesn't see dead people, but...
She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next... From Goodreads.
This had a slow start and I thought it was boring. But luckily it picked up and there was a couple of events at the end that I hadn't seen coming and that is always good.

Altered Soul by Karice Bolton
The realm of Altered
Souls brings nothing but unrest, deceit, and pain forcing Triss to come
face to face with heartbreak from her past.
Facing a betrayal like never before, Triss questions everything she thought she knew about her family, coven, and abilities.
With the help of Logan, she embarks on a journey enabling her to confront the dark side of magic and the person who controls it. Realizing Triss’s ancestors have been seduced for centuries by the dark side, Triss and Logan must ensure no more in their world fall victim to the realm of Altered Souls, even if that means ending the ones they love. From Goodreads.
As it is almost 2 years since I read the first book in this series it was slightly difficult to remember what happened. No problem after I started reading though. Triss feels she has been betrayed by several friends and family and has difficulties trusting again but she and Logan sort themselves out and continue to look for her mother who has been taken by Triss' evil father.

Macaron Murder by Harper Lin
To get off on the right foot with la gardienne, the caretaker of the apartment building, Clémence gives her a box of their luxury macarons. The next morning however, the half-eaten box of macarons is found near la gardienne's dead body. An incompetent inspector accuses Clémence of being the killer, which prompts her to clear her name and solve the case herself.
Join Clémence and her friends as they solve murder cases, bake macarons and other treats, and fall in love in The City of Lights. From Goodreads.

Illicit Magic by Camilla Chafer
When an attack by ruthless witch hunters forces twenty-four-year-old Stella from her home in London into the protection of the powerful Witch Council in New York, she has to put her faith in strangers just to stay alive, yet she might not be any safer in their midst than the danger she escaped.
Hidden from the Brotherhood in an extraordinary safe house by the sea where she is sent to learn her craft, Stella finds there is more than one dark secret in her new family: Étoile’s sister is spoken of in fear and sadness; Marc is supposed to be a powerful warlock but is missing his magic; where does the owner of their safe house vanish to every day and why does Evan have the eyes of someone not quite human?
One secret is important enough to kill for and it's a secret so powerful it could destroy the fragile threads of Stella's new world. From Goodreads.
I really liked this. I always like when things are not what they seem and most of what happens in this book is like that. And then I of course nearly always enjoy books about witches. I will definitely continue this series and as my sister likes it too I already have all 5 books.

Infernal Devices by K.W. Jeter
HE INHERITED A
WATCHMAKER'S STORE - AND A WHOLE HEAP OF TROUBLE. But idle
sometime-musician George has little talent for clockwork. And when a
shadowy figure tries to steal an old device from the premises, George
finds himself embroiled in a mystery of time travel, music and sexual
intrigue. A genuine lost classic, a steampunk original whose time has
come. From Goodreads.
This is a classic steampunk and the author K.W. Jeter is supposed to be the one who came up with the genre steampunk. This unfortunately doesn't mean it is a great book.
I have read other steampunk books and this book of course has all the elements of that genre being one of the originals but to me it was boring.

Reckless Nights in Rome by C.C. MacKenzie
Nico Ferranti’s only passions are money and power... He's a man who stopped believing in romance long ago and Bronte's a romantic, yet the attraction sparking between them like fireworks over the Piazza del Popolo stuns Nico.
When Bronte's brother is badly hurt in a car accident in Rome, Nico whisks Bronte to the Eternal City. He wants her and he wants The Dower House and Nico Ferranti always gets what he wants.
But Bronte’s heart has already been broken by one ruthless charmer and although tempted she isn’t about to give up either her heart or her home to the charismatic Italian without a fight! From Goodreads.
This was an okay romance. Nico has been trying to buy Bronte's home and now they finally meet. They both have secrets and she also have an awful ex-fiancée wanting revenge. It of course all ends happily and I might read more books from C.C. MacKenzie.

Neanderthal Seeks Human: A Smart Romance by Penny Reid
There are three things
you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a
conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information),
especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn
Sullivan, and 3) She doesn't know how to knit.
After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can't help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can't afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can't refuse. From Goodreads.
This was quite a funny read. Janie is a cute, very smart but weird girl. I enjoyed it and found the TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information) funny. I like Janie and also Quinn and the girls from the knitting club. I might read the next books in the series to see how they get their happy endings.

Every Woman For Herself by Trisha Ashley
Every Woman for
Herself is a hilarious account of divorce and dating from Sunday Times
besteller Trisha Ashley. Perfect for fans of Katie Fforde and Carole
Matthews.Living with her father and eccentric siblings could be considered a challenge but soon Charlie finds her new life somewhat refreshing. Now that she’s single she’s got no need to dye her roots nor to be the perfect wife and she can return to her first love- painting.
But just as she begins to feel settled, handsome, bad-tempered actor Mace North moves in down the road and starts mixing things up for Charlie in more ways than one …From Goodreads.
I really like Trisha Ashley's books. They are contemporary romances but with a whole lot of interesting side characters. In this one it is the elderly brother and sister in particular who have always been helping around the house that are interesting. It is of course pretty predictable but it is also very cosy.

Champagne and Lemon Drops by Jean Oram
One woman. Two men. One meddling small town.Raised by her older sister in the small town of Blueberry Springs, all Beth Wilkinson wants is to create a family so big she’ll never be alone. Things are going great until her accountant fiancé, Oz, experiences a family trauma, forcing him to rethink everything from his own career to their nuptial plans—leaving Beth alone.
As Beth works to rediscover her former bold and independent self in hopes of reattracting Oz, she catches the eye of the charming new city doctor, Nash. Not only does he see her as she’d like to be seen, but he knows exactly what he wants from life—and that includes Beth.
Torn between the two men, as well as two versions of herself, Beth discovers that love and dreams are much more complicated than they seem. From Goodreads.
Pretty bad. I didn't like any of the main characters. Beth and Oz are engaged and Oz decides he needs them to have a break so he can find out who he is. Enter Dr. Nash who knows she is on the rebound but still ends up asking her to marry him. I will probably not read any more books by this author.

Untouched by Robert J. Crane
Still haunted by her
last encounter with Wolfe and searching for her mother, Sienna Nealon
must put aside her personal struggles when a new threat emerges –
Aleksandr Gavrikov, a metahuman so powerful, he could destroy entire
cities – and he's focused on bringing the Directorate to its knees. From Goodreads.
Another book that has been on my TBR list ever since I read the first book in this series.
Sienna Nealon, a metahuman and succubus is at the end of this book finally growing up and coming to terms with who she is and what she can do. There is a twist at the end of the book and I am looking forward to see how that continues in the next book that I already have.

Legions by Karice Bolton
Realizing that Ana’s visions alone are not enough to protect them, her family begins her training immediately before she is targeted once more. The Legions will not quit until they get what they want, and they have made it clear that mortals will not be spared, leaving Ana little time to figure out what it is the demons are after.
As Ana balances her time between chasing after her destiny and spending her time relearning how to fight demons, she learns something about her past that could change why she’s fighting for anything at all. Clues continue to unfold in the form of yellowed letters she finds from Athen buried within an old Tudor home; and her future is signaled in a lone, white rose left for only her to see giving her the strength to persevere. She is determined to not give up faith that she will have it all once more. From Goodreads.
This is the second book of a trilogy. As it is quite a while since I read the first book it took me a few chapters to catch up. Ana a fallen angel, fallen angels are the good guys in this trilogy, is still searching for her mate Athen. She gets visions of fights with demons and they have to win, unfortunately not all visions happen exactly as expected. The book finishes on a cliffhanger. I have the last book and will try to read it soon.

Your Guardian Angel by Skyla Madi
It has been one year since her normal life was brutally taken from her. Still adjusting to the shock of the change from mortal to immortal, her world is rocked again and she is taken under the wings of a guardian angel back to Sage Sanctum- a school beyond reach from the vampires that are determined to destroy her.
There, she is freed from her vampiric chains and her normal needs and urges return. However a new urge arises… Lust. A forbidden lust toward her savior, her guardian angel.
Attempting to control these desires is difficult, very difficult and when things couldn't possibly get any worse, her situation becomes life or death as someone, somewhere in the school is aiding those who want her dead. From Goodreads.
An interesting concept with Gods and Goddesses hunted by vampires but guarded by guardian angels. Ruby, daughter of a goddess, has been bitten by a vampire and then turned back again. It is not an easy life for a teenager, former vampire, in a goddess high school. It will be interesting to read the next book in this series.
